Sponsorship & Changing Payer
Fund a workspace from another billing account’s purchased resources or transfer payment responsibility between payers. The sponsorship agreement determines who pays for new work and when that responsibility changes.
- Use it to
- Sponsor a client workspace from a provider billing account, transition a workspace to client self-pay, or transfer funding between payers
- Find it
- Workspace menu → Billing and usage → Payer accounts → Funding this workspace
- Limits
- Requires 3-party approval (current payer, destination payer, and verified client) · Voluntary end requires at least 7 calendar days' notice
- Instead
- If a Partner Manages Your Workspace (for operational MSP delegation grants without changing who pays)
Workspace access remains separate. Paying for a workspace does not grant access to its automations, connections or files. Managing a client workspace does not establish its payment agreement.
Review the agreement
Open the workspace menu and select Billing and usage → Payer accounts. Review available funding requests under Funding this workspace. Payer administrators can also use Manage sponsorship agreements in Payer billing, and the named client can use Review client funding agreements.
Every agreement identifies the funded workspace, the supplying billing account, resource limits for Step credits, Glow AI tokens, and retained storage, the proposed effective date, and each participant’s financial responsibility.
All three participants must approve their responsibilities using their own verified accounts; agency administration or an impersonation session cannot substitute for independent client acceptance. Changed payer authority or changed terms require a fresh review.
When funding changes
A voluntary change is scheduled for the current payer’s next monthly usage boundary (including on annual plans). The destination needs confirmed purchased coverage, existing retained files must fit both the destination’s purchased storage and the workspace’s storage cap, and pending uploads must finish or be released first.
| Request state | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Awaiting review | One or more participants have not confirmed the agreement. | Have the named participant review the current terms. |
| Awaiting boundary | The agreement is approved for a future change. | Check the displayed date and keep the existing coverage in place. |
| Storage capacity needed | Retained files do not fit the destination’s available capacity or cap. | Increase the applicable capacity or remove files you no longer need, then review readiness. |
| Uploads pending | Previously accepted uploads or copies are unfinished. | Finish them or use their available cancellation or recovery action. |
| Payment confirmation pending | The proposed coverage has not been confirmed. | Check the originating payer’s Billing view before starting another purchase. |
| Restricted | There is no current funding for the affected new work. | Arrange confirmed coverage and check a new operation after recovery. |
A pending voluntary transfer keeps existing coverage only while that coverage remains valid. It does not extend an ending sponsor’s commitment.
Prepare self-pay
Review the self-pay proposal and checkout
Have the named client review the workspace’s self-pay proposal, published resource choices, payment interval, and checkout total using their own verified identity. Purchase details remain private to that client.
Accept client billing-account ownership
After payment is confirmed, complete the separate review accepting ownership and financial responsibility for the client billing account.
Approve the funding change with the current payer
Review and approve the funding change with the current sponsor. Buying resources and accepting billing ownership do not replace the current sponsor until the funding change is approved.
Confirm recorded status
Check the recorded purchase and sponsorship statuses after returning from checkout rather than starting a second purchase if confirmation is delayed.
Withdrawing a funding request does not cancel a completed purchase. Use Review renewal cancellation on the original private purchase to stop its renewal, even if the workspace was deleted.
Ending sponsorship and payer history
| Topic | How Glow handles it |
|---|---|
| Voluntary or restricted end | A unilateral voluntary end requires at least 7 calendar days’ notice and takes effect at the first permitted monthly boundary. Payment or security restrictions can end future funding under their terms. |
| In-flight work and files | Previously accepted work keeps its original payer attribution when it finishes or releases its reservation. Existing files remain readable under normal permissions and retention rules. |
| Balances, debt, and invoices | Changing payer never transfers unused resource balances, debt, or historical invoices. A usage statement attributes consumption without creating or settling an agency invoice. |
| Deleting a workspace or closing a payer | Deleting one client workspace does not end funding for the payer’s other workspaces or close its billing account. To close a payer, resolve all active commitments, subscriptions, debts, and storage responsibilities first. |
